Maff Network for solidification Justice and Democracy Development brought together 12 legal and constitutional experts and prominent figures from diverse backgrounds to discuss the importance and possible pathways for developing a constitution for the Kurdistan Region.
The forum was organized within the framework of the project Organizational Network to promote the Rule of Law in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region (KRI) , with the financial support of the Norwegian Peopleโs Aid (NPA), and included three main panels:
๐น The Background and Future of the Constitution โ The history, challenges, and opportunities of the constitutional process.
๐น The Constitution and Good Governance โ Separation of powers, transparency, and accountability.
๐น The Constitution, Institutions, Rights and Freedoms โ Balancing institutional effectiveness with the protection of rights and freedoms and the role of civil society.
Key Outcomes:
The experts emphasized the need for a comprehensive, effective, and balanced constitution for the Kurdistan Region, serving as a foundation for the rule of law, democracy, good governance, and the protection of rights and freedoms.
They also recommended continuing constitutional dialogue, strengthening the participation of civil society, and communicating the importance of establishing a constitution to the relevant stakeholders and individuals who can play an influential role in advancing the process.
